Concrete

Concrete is a mixture of gravel (Ballast), sand and cement that sets hard within a few hours of being mixed with water. The proportions of ballast, cement and water vary to give concretes different strengths. Generally speaking, the less water that is used in the mix, the stronger the resulting concrete will be when it is fully set.

Concrete can be used for foundations for garden walls, footings and making a concrete slab for a shed, extension or conservatory, cementing in concrete posts and making paths.

General purpose concrete mix you can use 1 part cement to 6 parts ballast. Where all the elements of the mix are dry, a water to cement ratio of 0.55 should be used. As a guide, when your concrete is fully mixed and ready to use it should be able to support itself, almost fully, in a heap on a spade.
