Buildbase pledges its support for Oxford United
As Oxford United’s Wembley dream is shattered, the club’s sponsor has been quick to rally ‘round and give its support for next season. Builders merchant Buildbase will continue as main sponsor for the 2007/8 season, its seventh successive year with the club.

“We are proud of the part that we can play to invest in the club. Oxford United has given a lot of enjoyment to thousands of fans over the years and fulfils a key role in the local community.
Buildbase has strong connections with Oxford and we are pleased to be associated with a long-established local club. Many of our staff and customers follow the U’s and we are behind them all the way.
Despite the great disappointment of last night’s events we want to pledge our continued and wholehearted support for the club and its chairman,” says Kevin Middleton, Buildbase chief executive.
The national builders merchant has its head offices at Oxford Business Park and one of its largest branches – Johnsons Buildbase in Watlington Road – a few minutes away from the stadium. Buildbase first announced its sponsorship in 2001 and has stayed loyal through the changing fortunes of the club.

Wraps come off mystery stadium statue
A giant bronze bull was revealed as the mystery work of art at Oxford United’s home ground. A Buildbase lorry lifted the tarpaulin off the massive statue, ending speculation about the nature of the sculpture.

Buildbase joined together with local businesses STL Communications, Oxford Stone & Marble and Ridge & Partners to bring the project to fruition. A work of art was a condition of planning permission for the Kassam Stadium. Funded by local businesses, it has not diverted funds from the club.
David Robertson, Buildbase regional director who helped unveil the statue, said: “As long-standing club sponsors we were pleased to help Brendon Cross, his father, and all the other people who have made this happen. The secret had been quite well kept and there were different rumours about what might be revealed on the day. It’s a high quality installation that’s a credit to the stadium.”
A bull’s head is part of the Oxford United FC badge, although some people believe it is an ox, relating to the ‘Oxford’ name. |
