Coventry Speedway are delighted to confirm extension of their major sponsorship deal for the 2012 season

The team will once again be know as the Buildbase Bees after the builders merchants agreed to move into their ninth year of title team sponsorship – one of the longest running such arrangements in the sport.

Buildbase first linked up with the Bees in 2004 and the club are hugely grateful for the support received from Regional Director John Clarke and Managing Director Stephen Thompstone. Under the Buildbase Bees name the club have won three Elite League titles, two KP Cups, two Craven Shields, two EL Pairs and one Elite Shield.

Clarke said “We are delighted to extend our sponsorship into the ninth year, and we are looking forward to the start of the season in March.

Our association with Mr Sandhu and Colin Pratt over the last eight years is one we are very proud of, and we look forward to working with Mick Horton, Colin and Blayne (Scroggins) and supporting their quest to bring more silverware back to Coventry.

Very many of our customers over the last eight years have enjoyed attending this thrill-a-minute sport. We look forward to welcoming them back in 2012”.

Between March and October each year, speedway is televised live on Sky Sports every Monday night. Each meet involves 15 heats where 4 riders race around a 300m shale track for 4 laps on motorbikes that have no brakes and accelerate from 0 -60mph in 2.5 seconds.

COVENTRY BUILDBASE BEES 2010 ELITE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Coventry Buildbase Bees lifted the Elite league title on the night of Monday 5 October.  They overcame the Poole Pirates at Poole in the second leg of the grand final by 50 points to 40.

This win followed on from a 51 to 39 point win in the first leg of the final held at Coventry the previous week to give an overall winning margin of 101 -79.

This was the first time that Poole had been beaten on their home track all season.  It was made even more remarkable by the fact that, at the beginning of August, the Coventry Buildbase Bees were struggling at second from bottom of the league before they hit a rich vein of form.

This upturn saw them climb to fourth position in the league on the very last day of the normal league racing calendar, after which the top four teams enter into a home and away semi-final and, ultimately, a home and away final.

For the first time, a team finishing fourth in the normal league has gone on to be crowned the ultimate champions.

When you also take into account that teams usually consist of seven riders for each meeting, but Coventry were using only six.  Fellow team riders were taking the place of Edward Kennett who broke his ankle in a crash at Coventry last week.  In view of this, winning the championship was even more memorable and gave the ultimate end to a season which, in the early stages, looked like one to forget.

This amazing achievement is a fitting result for the massive travelling army of Coventry Buildbase Bees fans who did the 320-mile round trip to support their team.
