Selecting the right builder to work with, is probably the most important decision you’ll make during the whole building process.
Take your time to select one it’s always good to approach a few builders for quotes to make sure that you’re getting a good deal. When you receive quotes, don’t just jump at the cheapest one – even if you’re on a tight budget. Make sure you take time to understand what is included in the price. Are you comparing apples with apples? Ask whether there are any hidden fees and how their payment terms are structured.
In addition to this, see if you can talk to other people that have had similar projects completed by those builders. Get references and recommendations. If you don’t take the time at the start to find a builder that fits, then you could end up paying for it further down the line (in more ways than one!).
Architects are highly trained professionals that have bags of experience getting the most out of the space you have.
It’s important when finding an Architect that you find one that fits your budget, can understand the vision you have for your project and can translate that vision into reality. If you’re still on the search for an Architect then the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is a good place to start.
If the plans you have for your project are big and spectacular then an Architect is a must, but if your designs are more basic, then you might be able to get everything you need from your builder.
