Proud to sponsor: TY CUTHBERT KARTING
Buildbase is at the heart of the community; supporting grassroots talent and local initiatives that our customers and colleagues are passionate about too. Among them are a range of apprenticeships aimed at developing the next generation of building talent and we are supporting Ty Cuthbert rise through the ranks in the world of karting.
Ty got his first taste of karting on his eighth birthday and he’s been a fan ever since. Within three months he had entered the TeamSport Indoor Go Karting competition and quickly progressed through the leagues. Two years on and Ty has secured his Motorsport UK Competition Licence to reach the top of the karting game. Ty’s karting career is supported by his family, particularly his dad Chris.
Ty races his own Mini Rok kart, which is geared towards growing young karting talent.
The Season Review
The result for Ty in the Championship overall was 12th of 29; although if all his points were included, he would be 10th. In the series, drivers are allowed 2 drop rounds which removes your 4 lowest points. Nevertheless, an ineradicable achievement; only driving for the first time the newest more powerful kart in the initial round of SuperOne at Fulbeck and finishing at the 10th position on the day sixth just months from the starting out.
Every round of SuperOne apart from one was a brand-new track for Ty, so a massive learning curve but got on pace quickly, usually within first of the experienced leaders. Luckily most of the well experienced kids competing were all willing to coach Ty on the racing line at different tracks. Some of the more seasoned drivers started at between 4 -6 years old, so for Ty to be competing competitively after just over one year is quite remarkable which is regularly mentioned by many teams on the grid.
Ty has gained so much respect on and off track for his friendly and respectful personality, which has gained him a great following of new friends along with his proud parents.
Ty's dream from starting indoor karting at eight with TeamSport was to race in SuperOne and the F1 of karting for 30+ years for being at the top of the karting game. After six months in his own kart, we saved the funds to afford one round to make his dreams come true and many round the paddock said Ty did not have the experience. We then had two sponsors come on-board which gave Ty the opportunity to race the 1st round in a much powerful kart and new to the UK. Within a month we had one of the UK's most well-known building material suppliers on-board (Buildbase) which would guarantee Ty a place in every round.
This sponsorship gave Ty the broad shoulders he needed to compete at the top level of karting, knowing such a big national brand believed in his ability and wanted to support his rise in Motorsport.
As an avid Motorsport fan Ty attends most circuit events from F3, F4, Ginetta, Porsche Cup, Truck Racing, but more importantly British Touring Cars. As people have been following Ty's progress with his headline sponsors the best-known team in BTCC invited Ty to their HQ to get to know him. Following the meeting Teamhard.com have invited Ty on-board to be an ambassador even though he cannot drive a car for another 3 years but to help raise his profile and support his future in Motorsport.
Every time Ty attends a Motorsport event, he proudly wears his Buildbase branded race suit which has brought huge media attention even on ITV4 and continues to proudly sport his headline sponsors headgear to School.
Ty is immensely proud to be an ambassador for Buildbase and hopefully the dream will continue. The amount of people who trade with Buildbase or in construction recognising the brand is ineradicable which is a great opportunity for Ty/dad to explain the Buildbase business ethos.
Our Twitter account, which is all Buildbase and team hard, is at 94k impressions this month with so many new influential followers. When we were down in Banbury, we had dinner with Scott, the CFO of Haas F1 which was amazing. We also had a fantastic afternoon with Jamie Horner at the Arden HQ with the F2, F3, F4 drivers following a formal invitation (again they invite potential ambassadors only). Ty's been invited back for a race in their £1m+ sim to race an F2 driver in September.
Before that we were invited to I-Zone (free) at Silverstone which is a driver development programme and the way ahead. This is where Ty had 2 hours of amazing simulator practice with eye tracking at the country's best driver training facility preparing for Shennington and also set a new track record.
Buildbase and Ty
Ty is easy to spot at the track with his Buildbase branded kart and suit, and all rounds of the Super One Series are televised. We are also planning appearances at some of our customer events taking part in Buildbase branches.
What are his top achievements?
- Won Winter Series IAME Championship 2019 at Wombwell
- Finished 7 out of 25 in Fulbeck Sprint Championship 2018, despite joining mid-round

"We are extremely humbled and proud of Buildbase's generosity in funding Ty, which has been a game changer. Without the financial stress and strain of getting Ty to complete the full season we can concentrate on his driving and racing skills.
“The number of people that I’ve met at the track who work in construction is incredible from local builders to directors of large construction firms. Ty is hugely recognisable, and people have really opened their eyes to him with his Buildbase suit and kart.” Chris Cuthbert
