Special Shape Bricks
Special shaped bricks are mainly used for certain angles or to provide a decorative finish to wall-tops. They can also be used to protect exposed brickwork from water resting on it and damaging the wall over time. At Buildbase we stock a wide range of special bricks including plinth bricks, cant bricks, bullnose bricks, squint bricks, calf nose bricks, and upstand bricks. We are proud to offer high-quality special bricks sourced from industry-leading manufacturers and suppliers such as Ibstock, for very cost-effective and competitive prices.
Plinth bricks are typically used when you need to create double or single course splay details. This allows a change in depth to brickwork and can usually be found at the base of buildings, for window cills, capping, kerbs and corbelling details. We can also offer plinth stretcher bricks, plinth header bricks, plinth internal return bricks, plinth internal angle bricks, plinth external return bricks, and plinth squint bricks.
Cant bricks, also known as angled bricks are designed to allow brickwork to neatly change direction. They can also be used to create decorative features or can be used as end caps to wall-tops. At Buildbase we stock both double cant and single cant bricks.
Squint bricks assist with allowing brickwork to turn through 60 degree, 45 degree and 30 degree angles. Various length dimensions are available to achieve different patterns.
An upstand brick ensures that exposed brickwork, external facades or other building elements are not waterlogged during rainfall as well as protecting against rainwater bouncing up.
A bullnose brick has one or more corners rounded off, which makes them ideal for creating delicate curved edges for sills, steps or capping off walls. At Buildbase we stock both bullnose bricks and double bullnose bricks.
Similarly, calf nose bricks were originally made to help protect livestock from sharp edges. With their soft edges, they are ideal for pillars or even window features.
