Loft Insulation

Loft Insulation

Today, meeting the required amount of loft insulation in new builds using mineral wool alone requires around 270mm depth, but standards are expected to increase over time.

Installing loft roll insulation is also a common and relatively easy task for the homeowner as well as a great way of saving on heating bills. This often involves an additional layer of 100mm or 200mm laid at right angles to existing insulation. Care must be taken to ensure the roof space is ventilated and eaves are not completely blocked, typically achieved using a plastic guard called a baffle.

For insulating cold roof spaces (where the loft is not a habitable room) in pitched roofs at ceiling level, Buildbase is working with Knauf Insulation to supply Earthwool Loft Roll. Earthwool is a non-combustible mineral wool manufactured with Ecose technology, one of the benefits of which is to make the rolls much easier to handle. Earthwool offers excellent thermal performance, an A1 fire-rating and a choice of two lengths.

Earthwool Loft Roll 44 Ready-Cut is available in one size: pre-cut to 600mm widths in 150mm depth, the pack provides 9.18m2.

Earthwool Combi-Cut 44 is partially perforated for easy use at 400mm or 600mm centres to reduce time on the job. It is available in 2 lengths: SL which is a DIY store equivalent and standard, which offers more coverage per roll
