Today, meeting the required amount of loft insulation in new builds using mineral wool alone requires around 270mm depth, but standards are expected to increase over time. Installing loft insulation roll is a common and relatively easy task for the homeowner, as well a great way to save on your heating bills. This often involves an additional layer of 100mm or 200mm loft roll laid at right angles to existing insulation. When installing these products and roof insulation rolls, care must be taken to ensure the roof space is ventilated and eaves are not completely blocked, typically achieved using a plastic guard called a baffle.
It’s also important to consider personal protective equipment such as a suitable mask, gloves, coveralls and eye protection.
For insulation cold roof spaces, where the loft isn’t habitable, Buildbase is working with Knauf insulation to supply Earthwool loft roll. Earthwool is non-combustible mineral wool manufactured with Ecose technology, one of the benefits of which is to make the rolls much easier to handle. Earthwool offers excellent thermal performance, an A1 fire-rating and a choice of two lengths.
With so many options for insulation, it’s important to choose the correct one for your project. Please read our guide to insulation.
